Finally in California!!

On Monday, July 6, we visited Yosemite National Park. When we left Las Vegas we traveled north through the desert and then over a bunch of little dips caused by earthquakes. It was almost like going over a little rollercoaster and Mom did not like it at all! :) Then we went over the Tioga Pass at almost 10,000 feet elevation and we were in Yosemite! When we first got in Yosemite we went through mountains with snow in the summer! We stopped to play in a pile of snow and we had snowball fights, lost some sandals (but got them back), and pegged Mom and Dad with snowballs! :) Dad laughed and recorded the whole thing! J
We visited Yosemite Valley and went on the Valley Floor Tour. We learned a lot about Yosemite and about its past with Indians and its stories about how the rocks formations came to be. Half Dome is a woman who is looking across the valley with tears staining her face. We also went by the Merced River that we could tube down. We even saw the view of the painting in your house, M.T. Jeanne! (The one with El Capitan on the left, Half Dome and Bridalveil Falls on the right.) One of our hikes was to Yosemite Falls, the 5th tallest waterfall in the world! We climbed near the waterfall and we got so close that we had to yell over the roar of the falls and we could feel the icy and refreshing mist from the mighty waterfalls. We rented bikes one day and went to Mirror Lake. There we took off our shoes and walked through the lake. I looked for flecks of gold in the water while JT was happy to find some sand to play in. Also in Yosemite Valley, Dad and JT learned to free climb the rocks while Mom and I went on a mule ride. I rode a mule named Clementine and Mom rode a mule named Gerty. Gerty ate moss off of rocks and itched her butt on trees! It felt good to be back in a saddle! Mom felt bad for the mules because she thought they were overworked. They had to carry people up and down steep rocky trails all day.
We also visited the Mariposa Grove which had over 500 Giant Sequoias. They were HUGE!!! One that had fallen over was big enough to have horses and cavalrymen on top of it! The biggest one had branches that were over six feet in diameter and its base was 96 feet around. In another grove we visited there was a fallen sequoia that was hollow and JT and I walked through it!
One day we traveled to the Tuolumne Meadows area of Yosemite. On our way there we saw a young bear that I called Pooh. We took pictures of him and also a video. We hiked to Soda Springs which is naturally bubbly. We walked to the Tuolumne River where JT got in up to his boxers and I only got in up to my knees. The river is ice cold because it is snowmelt! While walking back to the car we saw a bunch of marmots and ground squirrels that were chasing each other. On our way home we went by Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, the source of water for the city of San Francisco.
The campground we’re staying at has a petting zoo with burros, alpacas and goats. They loved the apples I fed them. We hung out a hummingbird feeder and watched hummingbirds compete for the feeder. Next stop, Lake Tahoe!
